Well the nominees for the Baseball Hall Of Fame were announced on Monday and I feel horrible that two great players, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Tony Gwynn have to share the ballot with "Mr. Steroid Head" Mark McGuire.

The writers MUST MUST MUST not allow him to get in...Not on the first ballot.. Not to share the stage with these two incredible players....

If you do not know these two gentlemen, you can read about Cal HERE and Tony HERE.

41 Of Your Sparks

  1. Anonymous Says:
  2. ummmm ..... "What's Up Doc?" wasn't there? what's up w/ that? give me time I'll think of more... coming off a 15 hour day and I'm brain dead. thanks for the smiles.

    Joy

  3. Turnbaby Says:
  4. Funny list--yup yup yup--just a hoot.

And they can't let him in---nooooo

  5. Oops! I think that I know more than my fair share of those (in)famous television lines might indicate that I have watched far too much television in my day. Nowadays, my viewing is limited to sports and some cable shows (Rescue Me, Monk, and The Closer).

Of course, reading them made me giggle at times, and naturally some have been bastardized to fit a given situation. I can't believe they didn't include "Ru-roh," though -- an all-time classic in my book!

  6. Diana Says:
  7. Haha! They better have mentiond Columbo, or else I would have written a mean letter!

I'm happy a few of my fav shows were listed: Honeymooners, The Odd Couple, Raymond and Seinfeld. Just to name a few!

    Nice list, thanks for posting!

  8. Growing up I had my first crush on Fonzie... I think, it was originally a bit before my time, but they used to show reruns on Channel 33 ( Dubai's English channel) Different strokes was another favourite and his catch phrase was often repeated by us...

  9. TopChamp Says:
  10. See that song.. it's there for a reason right? And that reason's not that it's one of your favourites??

I just clicked play and wandered off to read the list of phrases... and found myself thinking 'what the h.. is that!?' Cheese!!!

  11. Twyla Says:
  12. Some really great ones there...it brought back a lot of memories. It seems like there are a lot missing though, that I just can't think of right now. Archie Bunker yelling Edith or Meathead didn't make the list. That was one of my fave shows.

  13. Pia Says:
  14. OH NO THEY DI'N'T! I'm sorry...I must contact TV Land ASAP...I can't BELIEVE they left out "Kiss my grits" and "Nanu Nanu"...Oh, the humanity!!!!

Now get back to work and finish your next installment!!!

    Hugs,
    Pia

  15. Maryfly Says:
  16. Dude! It was like a walk down memory lane with some of those quotes!! thanks! too funny!! and hey, a quote from the A-Team!! WOOOOOOO!!

  17. Sueann Says:
  18. Great post, Vince...some great memories and some not so great...such as Richard Nixon! Oh and Mark McGuire is a steriod head? I never knew that, honest! I'm pretty sure the autographed baseballs I got for my Dad and Nephew were signed by him. Oh well. Have a good day!

  19. Bond Says:
  20. JOY: I knew people would come up with the one's they missed by putting in commercials and those one timers...

TURN: yes it is and you are so right.. NO TO MM

SONGBIRD: I know all of them- what does that make me??? And yes Ruh Ro is also brilliant

DIANA: thanks.. I smiled when I saw it and immediately knew what the post would be about!

WENDY: Wha-chu-talkin'-bout? lol Love that one, though I did not watch the show often.

TOP: You are going to have to explain that comment...do you like that song? Hate that song? It was selected today because it "sort of" covered the subject...sometimes it is tough to find a perfect song... So explain please.

TWYLA: There ya go, was wondering who would come up with an Archie one... No Meathead! ???

PIA: another two that deserved to be there above Sen. Biden, Dunkin' Donuts or Miller Light... sheesh

MARY: Now, I never picked you as an A-Team chick.. learn something new every day

SUEANN: How could you not know about that? He went before congress and hemed and hawed... he left baseball so he did not have to test..

  21. Terri Says:
  22. What great sayings and a walk down memory lane...My favs are Cronkite and JFK.

  23. Maryfly Says:
  24. *rolls her eyes* look at my pic! Don't EVEN tell me you don't know who that is!! LMOO!!

  25. busy91 Says:
  26. Ahh the memories. I remember all of those phrases.

  27. Lizza Says:
  28. Hahaha! Thanks for posting that. It brought back memories of some of my favorite programs: X-Files, Seinfeld, Friends, Batman & Robin.

  29. Mags Says:
  30. I know Z is a hard letter to work with, but I'm sure someone's said something with a Z...

    Great list!

  31. Dixiechick Says:
  32. Oh yeah... I remember ALL those phrases... Too funny!!!

  33. Heather Says:
  34. OMG I knew almost every one of those. And I use a few of them in daily conversations. Thanks for posting this!

  35. Bond Says:
  36. TERI: Cronkite was a constant...

MARYFLY: yes dear.. but I never even think about that... LOL

BUSY: Well we were born into the TV generation

LIZZA: So nice to see you...Yes, Memories are fun

MAGS: I was thinking Ralph "Zoom Bang to the moon..." But it really was " Bang Zoom..." The shortened it and took out the bang and zoom...

    DIXIE: hehehehe Yes they are

  37. Bond Says:
  38. HEATHER: I think we all use some of them - which is even funnier...

  39. Skittles Says:
  40. It's funny how so many of those phrases are still used today in conversations!!! Thanks for the look back.

  41. Angell Says:
  42. WOW - so many new faces (to me anyway). I love a lot of those lines - but SUIT UP? from HIMYM? If they had to choose one from that show, it could have been

LEGEN...wait for it...DARY or any number of Barny-isms.

Still love the show tho - and thanks for the trek down memory lane. But my favourite from the Muppets isn't there

    ANIMAL - WANT WOMAN!!!

  43. Bond Says:
  44. SKITTLES: Yes, it is amazing hiw many you hear...

ANGELL: I just do not think a show that has been on less than two years can contribute to this tye of list...

Another one that could be included by Animal.. ty

  45. Dixiechick Says:
  46. *BIG yawn* If I don't get another matinee, I think I will fall asleep right here on my little piece of The Couch!

  47. Bond Says:
  48. DIXIE: It is not called MONDAY Matinee for nothing....

  49. Dixiechick Says:
  50. Well, you could have a Tuesday, Wednesday, etc.... Matinee too... geez.... *falls back on The Couch, grabs blankey and takes a nap*

  51. Coco Says:
  52. So many comments, I forgot what the blog was about ... I'm sure I enjoyed it .. unless there was baseball in there somewhere, then I probably just didn't understand it. Hang on ... oh ... tv catchphrases. Yep - recognized some of those. Fun blog, Bond.

  53. There is so much missing from that list!

How about something from Get Smart? Maybe "Would you believe..."

"How about that?" Mel Allen, This Week in Baseball

    "Did I do that?" Urkel

I could go on all day!

  54. BeckEye Says:
  55. The first one that popped into my head for some reason was "Not that there's anything wrong with that," from Seinfeld. But I can see why "yada yada yada" and "No soup for you" beat that one out.

  56. Bond Says:
  57. COCO: focus dear...

DR. B: Nice to have you here...All winners in my book...as i keep saying- if they only wanted 100 and some of these did not make it due to commercials and one time lines..they did a horrible job

BECKEYE: Another thing that bugged me..with all the great lines..keep it to one per show!

  58. Bond Says:
  59. DR. B: "WOULD YOU BELIEVE..." IS THERE

  60. indeed it is!

    How did I miss that?!?

    Well how about 24?

"WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF TIME!" or "TELL ME WHERE THE BOMB IS!"

and my all-time favorite quote from a very, very, very shortlived FOX show, the name I can't even remember but was drilled into my head one year in promos during the baseball playoffs...it was a character played by Ron Silver yelling: "HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!"

That one would make my list!

  61. Anndi Says:
  62. What?????
    No:

    'He shoots, he scores'

'Be vewy vewy quiet...I'm hunting wabbit'

    'Master of my domain'

    'Wile E. Coyote Supergenious'

    sheesh....

  63. Great job!

  64. Sueann Says:
  65. hmmm Wonder where I was when all this went on with Mark McGuire.....dang wonder if those autographed baseballs are worth anything...LOL!

  66. These are great!!! I have to admit I don't follow baseball much (football is more likely) but I've heard of both Cal and Big Mac.

  67. Travis Says:
  68. Regarding the HOF, Mike Celizic has an interesting take on McGwire if you're interested. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15927293/

  69. Anonymous Says:
  70. Yabba Dabba Doooooo!!!! ::: digs big toe deep in carpet ::: I got posted.... (feelin' all special & stuff) lol

  71. Turnbaby Says:
  72. There are certainly some good ones left out but it makes me all squeeee to see "You EEEDIOT " from Ren and Stimpy

    yup yup

  73. Bond Says:
  74. DR.B: Could it be...age????? LOL
I love 24 and one of those could have made it

ANNDI: I love the elmer Fudd one.. I use that one alot...

    BUD: Ty

SUE: yes they are still worth money....

JOELY: Well forget mac and learn about Tony!

TRAV: I will check it out thanks

    ANON: LOL OK... easily pleased

TURN: Does not surprise me that you like that one!

  75. ren.kat Says:
  76. thanks for the Ren and Stimpy inclusion. They are so overlooked.

    "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha" -Brady Bunch.

My real favorite can't be spelled- it's the sound the sleestack made in Land of the Lost- (you may have been a wee bit too old to be caught watching that Saturday morning show)- the evil alien-things that made a noise like the sucking tube the dentist puts in your mouth.
