Veteran's Day & Remembrance Day

COUCH NOTE: The following was originally posted in 2006 & 2008
(If you consider this maudlin - move along - I won't complain)

"SOLDIERS BE PROUD"

Today is the day we honor the men and women who
have worn the uniform of the
UNITED STATES military services.

It is also the day our neighbor (neighbour) to the north
CANADA
celebrates the men and women who have served for their country

Many have served...
have fought in battles to protect
the rights of the citizens of the
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
and
CANADA
and to provide freedom throughout the world.

Many have not returned...
from these battles, their blood spilled -
leaving behind families and friends.

Many have come back...
different, both physically and mentally -
never to be the same.

Many, the lucky ones, have returned...
to rejoin our society -
to regain their lives.

Today, take a minute out of your day and stop...
bow your head...and say a silent prayer for
every single one of these brave veterans.

Canada's National War Memorial - Ottawa, Ontario

It is Veteran's Day and Remembrance Day but let's not forget those
men and women who are serving us today.

I found out about this on DESERT SONGBIRD'S "The Ice Box".

A site where you can send a postcard
to a member of the US military
thanking them for their service.
A GREAT IDEA!
Find it HERE

Finally, on a personal note...

THANK YOU GRANDPA - WWI
&

THANK YOU DAD - KOREA

Veterans are special people. I just hope we treat the vets in the Gulf War (both of them) better than we did the Vietnam vets. I have a grandfather who landed at Normandy - and lived - and another who liberated camps at Dachau. I found this article here on WW1. The book is amazing.

This day is celebrated as a day of remembrance (Veterans Day, remembrance Day, Armistice Day...)in the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, France, Belgium and many other nations...

There are many veterans to be remembered.

We will remember them.
Lest we forget."

Wow, you left up the original comments and everything. I've been negligent in getting up my post, but it swam around my head all night, keeping me tossing and turning. I shall have to get mine posted before it has me buzzzzzzzing like a crazy BEE!

Thanks again for posting the link to Let's Say Thanks. Since this original post, I have never failed to shake the hand of a person in uniform or one who I know has served and said, "Thank you." Such a simple act, and yet it carries so much power.
