Thursday Thoughts...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, March 12, 2009

Hope you enjoyed the little bit of nature we shared yesterday. When the weather is pleasant, sitting on Nancy's back porch is so peaceful. Sure there are the noises of a suburban neighborhood, but it seemed like last Saturday and Sunday the world just receded and it was so peaceful.

Some of the bird and crickets and the like were not audible on the movie, which was too bad, as they made it even more peaceful.

Spoke with Matt yesterday and now there is some legal wranglings going on with the Continental Baseball League. They dropped two teams and then merged with another 6-8 teams and it seems someone is not happy and the lawyers are involved. Not sure what this means for him going down to Texas, though he has a signed contract giving him a 5-day try-out...so we will see.

So, when I was posting yesterday's video I became aware that two of my Video Tuneage Tutelage's no longer have sound on them. The B.B. King and the Howlin' Wolf Tutelages had the soundtrack removed because I violated the "no share our music" laws.

Now, I do not get this. First off, I OWN THESE SONGS! I paid for them.

I am not 'sharing them' - allowing people to copy them and use them - none of the songs actually played to their entirety or they have me speaking over them....yeah, 'hey bobby, let's listen to that Howlin' Wold song with the funny voiced guy talking all over it!'...

The music I post here, unless it is licensed to be shared, can not be downloaded, so you can only listen while streaming...again I OWN THESE SONGS...I PAID FOR THEM...

So, I can't invite people over to my home and play music for them, because it violates the piracy acts????? Because, kiddies, that is basically what I do here!

I am not a fan of those sharing sites and of pirating music...but this whole, you can't even stream what you own...or use the music as a soundtrack...

Now, the final point here is...all of what I just argued against above is just and right and the law should be enforced if someone is using music in a soundtrack or in a club setting ...IF THEY ARE MAKING MONEY OFF OF IT!...now y'all know that The Couch brings in so much revenue that I retired last year, right? WRONG! there is no advertising here...I make no money on the Tuneage Tutelages or the New Music Mondays etc etc...

So, the laws are in place to protect artists / record labels from having their product stolen...

Reviewing:
I make no money from it
I own all the music already
I am using it as a soundtrack on not for profit Tutelages
I stream the music here, not allowing downloads

HEY WGA...get your collective arses out of your butts and worry about important things...

So, I should probably post some real illegal music here...but I won't...

Just something for your Springtime listening enjoyment...

ENJOY....

  2. it is a drag that they have to restrict you to protect themselves against those who would steal their gig....

hope it works out for Matt's tryout....sitting in the back yard can be just about perfect!

  3. Matt-Man Says:
  4. Several of my You Tube videos have been stripped of their music as well. I think the one I did for you was one of them. As I big on copyright protection, I guess I understand.

Your music situation really kinda blows though. Cheers Vinny!!

  5. Matt-Man Says:
  6. Oh and Vinny? I have a video up this morning so don't say I didn't let you know. ; ) Cheers!!

  7. Dana Says:
  8. I certainly understand your frustration Vinny, but the intellectual property laws have yet to really catch up with electronic media. Hopefully they'll get it right eventually!

Hope things work out well for Matt!

  9. DrillerAA Says:
  10. No one ever accused lawyers of writing laws that actually make sense.
Laws are only the point of beginning for the lawsuit. It keeps them focused.

  11. Star8278 Says:
  12. Darn booger heads, taking YOUR music away.

  13. Turnbaby Says:
  14. I think Dana says it correctly--they need to catch up to the technology AND social media and common sense needs to prevail. So holding my breath is not what I'll be doing.

  15. The music industry is lost. If they spent more time figuring out how to replace lost income and less chasing this nonsense, they'd be better off.

  16. ...I hope Bruce doesn't sue you over this!...

  17. Jay Says:
  18. So far the music and movie industries have been reacting to new technology out of fear rather than embrace it and use it to their advantage. And they just buy off a few congressmen/women and senators and get what they want, not what would be sensible.

But, you do have to realize that you are freely disseminating someone's music to your hundreds of thousands of followers for FREE! It's an outrage Vinny! An OUTRAGE!

Can't you see how OUTRAGED I am? hahahaha ;-)~

  19. BeckEye Says:
  20. I blame all of this on Lars Ulrich.

  21. Ralph Says:
  22. It has been decades since I saw the Boss, but Rosalita seemed to be the last song in the main set prior to the encores. An energetic and joyful song, the best of the early Boss before 'Darkness' when his views on life seemed well...darker. This is the best of that era...

  23. JohnH985 Says:
  24. And you're trying to promote the music, to get people that might not have heard it to listen and maybe buy it. Which in the end helps them out, at least that's what I think. Instead of looking at themselves it's so much easier to try and blame the falling record sales on other people.

    Love the Springsteen song.

  25. Travis Says:
  26. I'm in agreement with what everyone else has said, so I'll just add my ditto.

  27. Tug Says:
  28. Has Matt heard any more?

That sucks on the music - could the people you're promoting/reviewing help you in any way?

  29. Starrlight Says:
  30. BeckEye is right and Lars is a dickhead....scratch that, he is a short little tool with sand in his pooter.

It's stupid. And the labels wonder why sales are down. Word of mouth is done via the web these days and this is free friggin promotion.

  31. Starrlight Says:
  32. Hah...John and I were on the same wavelength!

  33. Mimi Lenox Says:
  34. I don't understand what the fuss is about. Don't they have other things to do?

  35. Julie Says:
  36. Hah! I'm ready to give up....I thought you said "Just something for your SPRINGSTEEN listening enjoyment."

    Time for wine yet?

    **checks clock**

    H-E-L-L YEAH!
