Wedding Words...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, September 25, 2009

We will be back Monday with some pictures from the trip to Jamaica.

I just wanted to use my words today to tell y'all what an incredible week and a half it was from a few days before the wedding through the honeymoon.

What made it so incredible? Well DUH!...I married the most wonderful woman in the world. As I have said from the beginning - Nancy gets me 1,000%. She understands what makes me tick - scary thought indeed...but something we all desire in our lives.

But honestly - it was that and so many other things.

The fraternity brothers who came in from around the country. Even the guys who could not make it sent their condolences and let us know in plenty of time. We knew the weekend we selected was both a good choice and a bad choice. Good because it gave anyone coming a three-day weekend. Bad because so many people have special events that weekend, people with older kids are getting them off to college and anyone with younger kids in the northern parts of the country have school beginning right afterward.

Our families who were all able to come in - except my niece Amelia, who was not able to get away from college. Having them here meant so much indeed. Unfortunately my cousin Joyce got sick at the last minute and when she called me on Friday she was so upset she was crying. I missed she and her sister Denise (who was not able to travel) so very much and hope to travel to NC to visit them at some time in the near future.

The friends who came. You guys are the best. Nancy's two best friends were so much help to her on Saturday and were like 200 people on Sunday helping us to get things ready for the party that day.

Meeting Mickey-T and Phfrankie Bondo was just so special. I have to tell y'all, since I found these guys in the bloggosphere, I always felt like if we met in person we would find a common bond. I now know how real that is. These two guys are real. No BS about either of them. When we finally met in person I truly felt like I was just seeing two old friends.

Having my dear friends Turnbaby and Brad come down...well this is a relationship that will last forever. I was so sad that the other friends who blog were unable to make it. I know one young lady in Arizona who tried everything she could, but it was not to be. My favorite Canadian, Anndi also did her best but was unable to make the travel arrangements work.

There were quite a few friends who blog who we sent invitations to and unfortunately we were not able to connect with many. We are already discussing a get-together in Atlanta next summer and hope to meet Songbird and Starr and some others there.

There were some people who disappointed us. people who said they were coming and then at the last moment 'something came up' and they were not able to attend. We certainly understand that real life sometimes gets in the way - but a few of these folks never even called us to let us know...a couple we only found out because we asked directly 'we'll see you on Saturday, right?' and a couple we still have not even heard from.

That is not the way I was raised and maybe this is not the place to vent on it, but you know if this is not the place then I guess there is no place.

These no-shows actually cost us over $500.00 based upon catering and linens et al.

I just do not get it....sorry.

Anywhoodle...on Sunday we had a bar-b-que at our home with about 30 people attending. It was a blast and gave us more time with some people we do not see often enough. It was hot as hell that day and standing at the grill, I was drenched by the time I finished.

Then Sunday night after everyone had left Nancy and I sat and took a breath. It began to storm pretty heavy and all of a sudden we were in the dark!

The electricity came back on and Nancy reset her alarm clock. I also set the alarm on my cell phone and we laid our heads down to sleep with early wake-up to catch our 8:00am flight.

The next thing I heard was "OH S**T!!!" It was Nancy and it was 6:30 am...and hour later than both of us had set our alarms!

Out of bed...clothes thrown on...into the car and a normal 35 minute drive to the airport was accomplished in less than 22 minutes.

What happened? We BOTH set our alarms, but when Nancy set the time on the clock she set to 10:00am not 10:00pm and I set my cell phone but never turned the alarm on...

Obviously we made the flight, but it was not the way we wanted to begin our honeymoon....

Was having network problems today, so ripped this post off without stopping...not sure it makes much sense - but that is nothing new here!

Have a great weekend...see you Monday with toes in da sand photos mon...

21 Of Your Sparks

  1. Rushing to the airport bites. Glad you made it!

  2. Maggie Moo Says:
  3. I'm glad that you were so blessed to have such wonderful people there for you and Nancy on your day. As for the jerks who didn't show-I'll never understand character at all. Especially for a wedding-where it costs you money to invite them. Asses.

  4. Ken Says:
  5. Atlanta? That's doable.

Well I hope on Monday we get to see more than toes...easy boy don't swing at me.

  6. See I knew Atlanta would be a good center point place =) I think I can even bully Southern in to coming out and meeting us.

Tell Nancy I do the AM/PM think ALL the time! And nice drivin to whomever on a Monday morning ;)

  7. Travis Cody Says:
  8. I have mixed up the AM/PM too. That's why I prefer military time. IMO, we need more alarm clocks that work on a 24 hour clock.

And I'd say you started the honeymoon off made the plane!

  9. BUD: You know it bites dude...

MAGS: It just amazes me that some folks thing it is like a house party and if they don't attend no biggie...

MICKEY-T: I bet it is doable and I ain't swinging...

STARR: You just told her - she does read every day...just is quiet

TRAVIS: I have thought about that also Travis...I have done it too many times in my life.
Yes we made the plane...thankfully it is Memphis airport and not Newark or O'Hare...

  10. I had no idea you got a hurried start to your honeymoon. Hubby and I had the same experience on our "second" honeymoon - and jumped on the plane as they were closing the doors! We made it, but our bags didn't. Luckily for us, we were in country.

I'm hoping, hoping, HOPING that Atlanta will work for next summer. Cross your fingers!
