Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Work is making my head hurt...

I have already said that American Idol has jumped the shark with putting someone with no musical background on as a judge...

Then this week, the first contestant comes out to do Billboard #1 hits and performs "The Letter"...and NOT ONE FRICKEN WORD ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE AMAZING William Alexander "Alex" Chilton who sang the song with The Boxtops and was the leader of Big Star passed away only 6 days ago!!!!!

Jumped the shark? No this show has been eaten by the shark and should be put to rest...go away ...this show has nothing to do with music...nope...now it is about the person...

I want to promote this early so you can make plans...this Monday evening on Music On The Couch I will be joined by Starrlight, JOHN H, and Sean Coleman to discuss the music industry past, present and future.

Originally, Barbara/Layla was supposed to join us, but a personal commitment will keep her away.

This is a show I really hope people join the chat room and call in to express their opinions...I feel strongly that we are the fans, we are the base upon which the music industry and music itself is built on.

So block out an hour...Monday evening...10pm eastern and join us on MUSIC ON THE COUCH.

16 Of Your Sparks

  1. I noticed they totally ignored Chilton as well. Of course he would probably have preferred it that way...

  2. ...are you aware that he was just sixteen years old when he sang The Letter? A-frickin'-mazing!...

  3. STARR: Probably not, but he deserved it

PHFRANKIE: I was and he was a Memphian by birth too!

  4. Jay Says:
  5. I stopped watching Idol a couple of years ago. 90% of them just suck so bad. And the judges contradict themselves constantly. They'll tell one contestant one thing, then the very next one will do what they say people should do and they'll criticize him or her for doing it. Drives me crazy.

  6. BeckEye Says:
  7. HAHA...do you really think any of those idiots would know who Alex Chilton was?? This is a show that makes MILEY CYRUS a mentor.

  8. Unknown Says:
  9. I agree with BeckEye, they probably didn't mention it because they don't even know who Alex Chilton is. I remember a few years back, when Taylor Hicks did a song by Ray LaMontagne and Paula was praising Taylor for bringing to life all these old singers and songs...except Ray is a contemporary singer. Outside their little circle of influence they really don't know much about music or its history.

  10. Dear God, Ray is 6 years younger than me. "Older?!"

And to think people miss her.

  11. Mimi Lenox Says:
  12. I couldn't believe Cyrus was on IDOL last night. I had to turn it off.

I feel a blog rant coming on.

  13. Mimi Lenox Says:
  14. Oh, and I will be there next week with pencil bells on! Stellar guests!!!

  15. Travis Cody Says:
  16. Opinions differ. I don't think putting Ellen on constitutes jumping the shark. She's not completely ignorant about what she's hearing. And she's not cruel with her critiques.

Randy, Kara, and Simon often don't have anything of value to give to the contestants either, and they are all in the business. I don't often hear what they hear, or like who they say I'm supposed to like.

I'm more concerned with the quality of contestant they put through this time. There are a few who just don't seem to get what the opportunity is about. That's what bugs me.

I don't care who the judges are, just so long as they aren't mugging about while the kids are performing. And my choice is always to stop watching if i lose interest.

    Opinions vary...one person's make-it-go-away is another person's gotta-watch-it-because-of-that.

  17. Coco Says:
  18. I watched it once this season. It was kind of like rubber-necking a car wreck, I felt, so I didn't pursue it. Idol has seen its day and should bow out gracefully ... IF there's still a modicum of grace to be had in it.

  19. LAC Says:
  20. I tried to watch this season, mostly because one of the male contestants is from my area of the country, Aaron Kelly. And he's a bit country. But tv these days is a rare luxury with a 2 mo. old in the house. Our schedule is all out of sorts. Thanks for the post though, feels like I can kind of keep apprised and have something useful to add to water cooler conversations about the show.

  21. Dianne Says:
  22. would you believe I have never, ever watched AI
I've seen clips on other shows but never watched it
it always seemed mean at the start, cheesy in the middle, and over the top at the end

  23. katherine. Says:
  24. yeah...I'm not an Idol viewer either.

And I learned not to mess with the SoulPatrol a long long time ago....laughing

I DO however listen to Music on the Couch and am looking forward to next weeks episode!

  25. THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS ALL...And travis, you are 100% correct. What is one person's liking is not the next. I admit to not being a big fan of Ellen's anyway, so maybe my opinion is tarnished by that fact.

BUT, we are all stating our opinion without nastiness and disgust...maybe the rest of our country needs to recognize that can be done.

  26. Dana Says:
  27. American Idol should have gone the route of a one-hit wonder ...
