Arizona Redux & Five On Friday

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, May 14, 2010

After discussions in comments with Dusty and offline with my friend Songbird, I might have been harsh to the state of Arizona yesterday.

Without living there and seeing some of the things that are occurring, I guess I took a side without all my facts.

If the classes in question are taught with a syllubus that advocates hatred toward the USA, then they should be stopped.

I am all for classes that teach other cultures as long as all can participate.

Classes taught within the boundaries of the US that are built around teachings that a nationality has been oppressed, so it is OK to cause disruption, no, I do not back that.

This is something I need to investigate further.

The TUNEAGE TUTELAGE BAND BIO which I posted yesterday over at REAL LIVE LESBIAN'S is now posted over on my Music page TUNEAGE TUTELAGE

Each week TRAVIS from "Trav's Thoughts" hosts Five On Friday where we get to select five songs of any mix we care....

Check out the other participants by clicking on his link above...and join in!

You can register for free at and type in a band name and BAM the song will be there to assist in building your playlist.

Travis lays out some guidelines for this meme and they go like this:

1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.

2. Go to to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.

3. I don't know how to make a specific linky, so be sure to leave me a comment to let me know that you participated.

4. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.

I just did a random mix of five songs that I have always enjoyed. They are by Vanilla Fudge, The Crykle, Dave mason, Deep Purple and Steve Miller...

Random mix for a random day....

13 Of Your Sparks

  1. Thanks for having an open mind, Vinny my friend. That's all I ask of people; consider all sides and walk in our shoes.

  2. favorite Dave Mason tune is World in Changes...

  3. Travis Cody Says:
  4. I guess every state has its own unique challenges within the larger challenges of the country. I think that the important thing is to avoid discrimination and persecution in all things, in favor of tolerance and respect for our differences.

Let's not make laws nor engage in practices that discriminate.

  5. Maggie Moo Says:
  6. You've always been good at hearing the other side of the story and retracting or modifying if need be-or better yet, saying you still feel the same way but that you respect the other side too.

I love your music choices this week!

BTW-please stop by my place today. I have a post w/ an important question that I think you could offer insight to.

  7. CiCi Says:
  8. The Arizona issue is befuddling and I think part of it is caused by the news that is released. Some is real news and some is not. I agree that in order to form a wise opinion we need to learn more about things in that state. My brother-in-law lives there and my nephew and his family too.

  9. Jay Says:
  10. The ethnic studies bill was poorly timed politically. It came right on the heels of the immigration bill and looked like piling on to people outside of Arizona.

I think you can fault them for not being more politically smart about these things. They opened themselves up to charges that they were going all out against Hispanics. Not everybody is as open minded and willing to listen as the Vinster. ;-)

  11. SONGBIRD: I will always admit when I am wrong...well maybe!

    PHFRANKIE: Also a grand number

    TRAVIS: totally agree with that

MAGS: Thanks...and I submitted my thoughts

TECHNOBABE: Excellent points.. Thanks for participating

JAY: You know - excellent point Sir..timing...
I try to listen when I think there is something to listen to

  12. Nice group there. Hadn't heard Red Rubber Ball or Hush in ages. Thank you.

  13. Warrior_Kat Says:
  14. I love the songs in your playlist Vinny. Cool mix of songs. Have a great weekend!

  15. Interesting weigh-in on the Arizona situation. I actually think that an arms' length view can be refreshing when there are historic axes to grind.

Music-wise, I really enjoyed the Deep Purple today.

  16. Travis Cody Says:
  17. Forgot to comment on the music! It's a great Set. Loved the Dave Mason.

  18. TopChamp Says:
  19. I would like to hear the music... but it doesn't let me listen from here.

  20. Dana Says:
  21. I think the situation in AZ is quite complex and unless you've lived there (or in a similar type area) it's difficult to grasp why anyone would even consider some of their legislation.
