Musical Monday On The Couch

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, May 17, 2010

MONDAY, MAY 17, 2010
10pm Eastern; 9pm Central; 8pm Mountain; 7pm Pacific

This week:
sit on

Ms. Elizabeth Tryon is an engaging singer who has a classic feel for her music. With comparisons to people like Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, Katherine Jenkins, Madonna and Andrea Bocelli, Ms. Tryon impresses with a deep rich vocal styling.

She has a foot planted in the pop world and the other in the classical world. As is evidenced on her CD FROM ELIZABETH, which contains some light pop-rock in “Gift” to an operatic aria “Olympia’s Aria”. An interesting pairing and we will discuss how this all came about.

Then we are going to do a 180 and talk to the members of Roast Beef Curtains, a band from my home turf of Long Island. Three college friends - John on bass, Andrew on guitar and vocals and Mike on drums - who decided Reggae/Dub/Punk was the way to fulfill their dreams and it seems to have worked. RBC was just added to the lineup for Bonneroo June 10-13.

They are also close to dropping their first full length album. So there is plenty to learn and discuss.

We will take your calls and questions for both guests at 1.347.633.9400.

The live interactive chat room opens 20 minutes before show time. Follow this link HERE and click on the Chat Now icon.

Remember, unless you take the two minutes to register, you will not be able to participate in the chat room or send me questions to ask Elizabeth or RBC, but you will still hear the show.

So tune in on Monday evening or, you can always listen anytime after the show ends from the player HERE or check out Music On The Couch for additional artist information, and show recaps.

You can download to your iTunes and even subscribe to the show for weekly automatic downloads, from my iTunes page HERE.

  1. Travis Cody Says:
  2. Please tell me that one of your first questions is going to be about the name. Roast Beef Curtains?

  3. Jay Says:
  4. Hey Travis! Have you checked with Urban Dictionary? Maybe we don't WANT to know what "Roast Beef Curtains" means. LOL ;-)

Also, I propose something different this week. You know, just to change things up a bit. I'm thinking cage dancers and buckets 'o beers. 8 beers for 8 bucks? Whaddya think?

  5. TRAVIS: Well yeah it will be...but...see Jay's comment

JAY: I did not know what it meant until I googled them and the Urban Dictionary came up first...
How about 1 beer 8 bucks? I need to earn some cash!

  6. ...Roast Beef Curtains would be a good name for a band...

  7. Vinny, I recommend NOT asking the band how it got it's name. Please. ;)

  8. Travis Cody Says:
  9. Oh...never mind.

  10. Computer problems - can't get into the chat room. :(

  11. Unknown Says:
  12. Just finally getting back on the internet after over a week of being locked out...I just did a simply six with Ms. Tryon. Sorry I missed your interview with her, I'll have to go listen in the archives.
