And another week begins...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, June 14, 2010

Dad's book has been met with enthusiasm by those who know him. I have been shown some emails he has received from people who have read the book. This one is from someone who Dad knows via the community he lives in and the board.

This gentleman (I am withholding his name with respect), is a survivor of the concentration camps of Germany and spent some time speaking to Steven Spielberg and staff as they researched the movie "Schnidler's List".

So, yes, I am braggin' on my dad...that's right, I said it...LOL

Dear Vince,

After I left our Executive meeting at house yesterday I went home and decided to go back to the Baldacci book that I was in the middle of reading. Then I thought, “Let me skim through Vince’s book first”. So I picked it up and have not stopped reading it since. I continued to read it through lunch and if (my wife) hadn’t said “No reading at the dinner table”, I would have read through the meal.

Needless to say your extraordinary book is a page turner from beginning to end. I laughed and I cried, sometimes at the same time. Through your exceptional prose I felt every emotion. Your story is humorous, heartfelt, traumatic, human and it’s a love story; love of family; love of country; love of career; love of friendships and above all love of life. Joan and your children and grandchildren must be bursting with pride.

Until now I’ve really only known you as a fellow Board member of the Moorings. After reading your book, you’ve drawn me in to feel as though I’m a member of your family and I know you so much better.

I’m certain (my wife) will feel the same after she reads your book.

Congratulations on your outstanding “first book”.

If ever I return in a second life it would be an honor to come back as a Marini.

All the best,

So, Thursday evening. Nancy had to make some business calls at Nursing Homes, one of them about an hour away. When they have a new employee and they work second or third shift, you must go out and meet with them.

I am alone..I go to leave to drive the hour to Oxford to see Josh Charles and my battery is dead...kaput...not even showing a sign of life.

Not a neighbor in sight...

By the time Nancy got home and I could go to AutoZone and get a new one, it was way too late to drive down...So, I will have to wait for his next swing through the region.

OK, JAY of "Cynical B**tard" asked some questions last I go:
1. You’re building your dream house. What’s the one thing that this house absolutely, positively MUST HAVE? (other than the obvious basics of course)

MEDIA ROOM OFFICE...It would be where my desk is with my computers. Close by is the audio set-up allowing for digitization of vinyl, playing vinyl on turntable. It would also have a VCR so I can digitize all the VHS tapes I have - mainly of Matt's growing up and baseball and family trips...the usual - also a 60" TV in the room, hidden speakers for the music and surround sound - a grouping of reclining leather chairs for viewing the TV...TiVo, a wall with bookshelves and a wall with all my vinyl.
2. What is your dream car?

There is something about the 1971 Plymouth Barracuda that has always caught my fancy. They are one of the most expensive muscle cars. A rare example packing 426 Hemi or 440 six pack power can run well into the 6 figures on the auction block

3. What is your favorite website that isn’t a blog.

Wolfgang's Vault, where you can stream some incredible concerts and also purchase many of them for under $10.00

4. iPhone 4 or Droid, which do you want?

Honestly, I really don't care. If iPhone goes to Verizon I would probably go that way, as I am an Apple-fan.

5. When you’re feeling down or lonely or just generally out of sorts, what do you do to cheer yourself up?

I can do one of two things...I go to Nancy and let her cheer me up or - as I did before I met her - I can put on the headphones and put on "Mountain Jam" from the EAT A PEACH album by the Allman Brothers Band.

6. Tell me about something or someone that you love that most people seem to hate.

I love Calamari. Not fried, but pan-seared and then served in a spicy marinara sauce over linguini. I am not only talking about the rings, but the tenacles also..YUMMO

7. What do you want to be when you grow up?

Do I have to grow up?

8. Would you go on a reality show if given the chance?

I have said before, I would go on Big Brother if I could afford to take three months off of work.

9. Who was your favorite teacher when you were growing up. (Grade school, Middle School, Jr. High or High School only.)

Mr. Vandercreek in High School. He taught Art and was Yearbook advisor and knew I could forge his signature on hall passes and no one could tell and he never got upset over it. heheheh

10. You get one pass to do something illegal or immoral. What are you gonna do?

I would make my debts go away so I could have a clean start with Nancy...and then probably give a bunch of money to a charity to compensate for it.

16 Of Your Sparks

  1. That's great about your dad's book. Out of curiosity, is it available for purchase online or somewhere else?

  2. Dana Says:
  3. If iPhone goes to Verizon I would probably go that way, as I am an Apple-fan.

It's OK ... we love you anyway ...

  4. SOUTHERN: is where it can be ordered

DANA: You love me even more because of it! Admit it!!!

  5. Jay Says:
  6. That's damn cool about your dad's book.

Great answers. I love the media room/office thing. There are so many ways to make home offices super cool.

  7. JAY: Thanks and yeah, the office/media room would be my baby indeed

  8. ...I used to commute from Redwood City to Santa Rosa and so I had to cross the Golden Gate Bridge everyday. In my 1972 Toyota Corolla I had an eight track and one tape: Eat A Peach. If I timed it just right I would be in the middle of Mountain Jam as I crossed the bridge, and that was pure extacy. We must be in Heaven, man!...

  9. Ken Says:
  10. I just might have to buy me that book, unless of course Phfrankie buys it first then sends to me, because he should offer to do that anyway.

  11. Jeff B Says:

  25. Tug Says:
  26. Sorry to hear you had to miss Josh...everything happens for a reason; would just be nice to know what the reason is sometimes.

Many congrats to your Dad - how awesome!!
