Wednesday On Beale & Five On Friday...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, July 23, 2010

Wednesday evening I got home and decided to head down to Beale Street.

Brandon Santini & Delta Highway were appearing at Mr. Handy's Blues Hall and right next door at the Rum Boogie Cafe, Victor Wainwright was playing with Greg Gumpel who is the guitar player for the Wildroots, Victor's main band, and Josh Roberts who is the guitar player for another local powerhouse The Reba Russell Band.

COUCH NOTE: While I was finishing this post off, Ms. Russell sent me a note confirming August 23rd as the night she will sit on The Couch with me on Music On The Couch. Cool Beans!

Though I had met Victor at a Delta Highway show and then interviewed him on Music On The Couch, I had never seen him play live.

Hold the phone folks..this guy is one hell of a performer and an incredible 'piana' (as he pronounces it) player. And the funny thing is, he does not have the hands of a piano player as pointed out to me by a gentleman named Silver Michaels Victor's fingers are small and wide. But can he play...oh yeah! And not just roadhouse boogie piano, he can tickle the ivories on slow numbers like no ones business.

So for the next few hours I went back and forth watching both bands play. I had my camera and will now share some shots with y'all...then we use the two bands for Five On Friday

Josh Roberts on bass guitar/kick drum and high hat;
Victor Wainwright on the 'piana'

Greg Gumpel on the Fender

Josh is only 22!  he will be a star soon

Gumpel, Roberts, Wainwright

A fav of mine...the passion is incredible

As my new friend Silver Michaels captioned on Facebook
Uncle Victor Wants YOU!

Josh mugging for the camera

Brandon Santini

Derek Bonn, drummer for Delta Highway
Is that not a rockers name, or what?

Elliott Sowell, guitar player for Delta Highway

Todd Edmunds, new bass player for Delta Highway
That is a hollow body, fretless bass guitar
the depth of sound he obtained was amazing

Brandon smokin' the harp

Come to Memphis
See these guys live up close
AND they are all the best people!

Each week TRAVIS from "Trav's Thoughts" hosts Five On Friday where we get to select five songs of any mix we care....

Check out the other participants by clicking on his link above...and join in!

You can register for free at playlist.com and type in a band name and BAM the song will be there to assist in building your playlist.

Travis lays out some guidelines for this meme and they go like this:

1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.

2. Go to Playlist.com to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.

3. I don't know how to make a specific linky, so be sure to leave me a comment to let me know that you participated.

4. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.
