Each week TRAVIS from "Trav's Thoughts" hosts Five On Friday where we get to select five songs of any mix we care....
Check out the other participants by clicking on his link above...and join in!
You can register for free at playlist.com and type in a band name and BAM the song will be there to assist in building your playlist.
Travis lays out some guidelines for this meme and they go like this:
1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.
2. Go to Playlist.com to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.
3. I don't know how to make a specific linky, so be sure to leave me a comment to let me know that you participated.
4. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.
Well kiddies, this week is a theme set....but do you know the theme? Each of these selections/bands has one thing in common...
Go on...take a guess...I will respond when someone gets it right. I know a few people who will get it immediately
Some of the music might be 'different', but I hope you listen, because some of it is spectacular...
HAVE A GRAND WEEKEND!
...try as I might, I cannot find the common thread other than the fact that I dig each and every tune...
DUDE: I thought you would see it
Well, I've listened to the set through twice now and other than liking all of the songs - particularly Elenore - I'm not getting the theme either. Then again, I've only had one cup of coffee and am about as fuzzy as a Georgia peach this morning!
Were these recorded the same year?
Final Jeopardy answer:
"What are five musical acts that I've never seen in person."
Did I win??? ;-)
LINDA: Glad you enjoyed them
TECHNOBABE: Nope
JAY: Could be a consolation prize for that answer
Is it that Flo & Eddie perform in each song? Or Mark, Howard and Jim Pons as they are known by their real names.
JOHN: ooooo nice, but no. Flo and Eddie never played with Capt Beefheart
Drat! That was the one person I wasn't sure about. I was hoping that I just didn't know of them playing with the Captain.
Vinnie,I swiped Elenore and added it to set 17 of my 5 On friday.
JOHNH..Jon Pons was also a member of the Turtles and it seems you combined Flo's first name and Eddie's last name! LOL
MIKE: Swipe away
OK kiddies...thanks for playing.
The common thread is FRANK ZAPPA.
Song 1: Is obviously Zappa
Song 2: Captain Beefheart and Zappa met as teens and played together. Zappa also signed Beefheart to his Straight Records and produced him
Song 3: Flo and Eddie (or (Howard Kaylan, "Eddie", and Mark Volman "Flo") both played with Zappa in the Mothers Of Invention
Song 4: See #3, this was after the Turtles and after they left Zappa
Song 5: The Mother's Of Invention were Zappa's band from 1964 to 1969, and then from 1970 to 1975.
Dang it! It was right under my nose all the time, I was looking at it from the wrong angle.
And what's even worse, I'm in the middle of a biography of Frank Zappa right now that I've been reading off and on.
I never would have gotten the theme. I just don't know that much about Zappa. But I think this is a great twist for FoF in the future...guessing the theme for the Set.
I might have to try that myself one of these times.
Oh...I enjoyed the music this week too!
