Travis lays out some guidelines for this meme and they go like this:

1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.

2. Go to Playlist.com to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.

3. I don't know how to make a specific linky, so be sure to leave me a comment to let me know that you participated.

4. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.

So there I was heading out to lunch on Wednesday, going up a ramp to get on Poplar Pike, one of the main roads in Memphis. As I reach the top of the ramp, applying gas to enter the flow of traffic...

Nothing!

That's right...nothing but the revving of the engine. OK, put it in park, put on hazard lights. Put it back in drive and...

Nothing!

So, after taking out my gun and blowing a hole in the engine taking a few minutes, I open the door and push...there is a slight down-slope right there and I needed to get across three traffic lanes. The car starts rolling, I jump in, hand out the window, turn signal on indicating I want to go left and I get to the center lane without incident. Then two cars come crest the hill behind me and BOTH move to the left lane...I have to apply my brake and then just barely get to the shoulder of the road where I am not going to be run down.

Call Nancy who gets the number for roadside assistance (thankfully part of our car insurance policy). Call the number, get a tow truck on the way. Took 90 minutes for them to get there. Get to the shop and drop it off.

Today, the news...the torque converter is bad and needs to be rebuilt...The transmission fluid is clean, so that is still fine. Total cost to rebuild the torque converter...$1,600.00!

Brother can you loan me a dime?!?!?!?

So..today's Five On Friday...about CARS...but not your usual songs (OK, maybe one is) and one that makes my point today!

ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND

  1. Cars - both a blessing and a bane. A curse when it ceases to do what it's designed to do. I'm sorry for your aggravation, and for the exorbitant expense, but I'm sincerely glad you weren't hurt by an inattentive driver.

  2. Lisa Says:
  3. Yikes, that seems steep for a rebuilt converter. I would have to ask hubby to be sure. But I think he'd agree. Too bad you couldn't get a used one from a u pull it lot.

We deal with cars everyday at my house, hubby being a mechanic with his own garage. I have to say, they are very frustrating.

Hope you can get it fixed quickly, and glad you weren't hurt getting to the side of the road.

  4. Papa said, "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin'..."

  5. Starrlight Says:
  6. Doh Vinny =( Car isssues are the worstest of the worst!

  7. Jay Says:
  8. That sucks so bad!

I've had the same thing happen to me twice. Once in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma and once on Loop 410 in San Antonio at rush hour. Sooooo much fun!

  9. Linda Says:
  10. $1600? Brother, you need more than a dime, you need a bucketload full of half dollars and then some!

Great choices for your songs this week, I've always liked Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car".

  11. Travis Cody Says:
  12. Oh man! I love the Set of car tunes, but it sucks that it was inspired by actual car trouble.

  13. DrillerAA09 Says:
  14. CarTunes!!!! Love it. Sorry about the inspiration for the theme though. Glad you made it to the shoulder without incident. I could have guessed that "Car Wash" and Little Deuce Coupe" would have made the list.

  15. Coco Says:
  16. You got my sympathy and complete understanding - I had my car inspected yesterday and had to drop a cool $1000 on new brakes all around, and a wheel thingy ... bearing? Good news though, I eventually got my sticker!

    Gotta love dem cars, eh?
