Monday and a new week begins

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, February 21, 2011

Busy weekend with Saturday comprised of shopping for some food, then baseball has begun in the high schools here and Peter's team was playing so we went over and watched both the varsity and jv games.

Then we came home and I made some wings. Two kinds, one buffalo style, but not too hot (they actually could have been hotter) and one a sweet-hot flavor. I tossed them in some flour that had been seasoned with kosher salt, black pepper and a generous serving of Corruption. Then into the deep fryer until they were golden brown. I held them in a 250 degree oven until all were completed and then tossed them into their sauces until covered and yummy gooey.

Had some roasted potatoes with them and a few Red Stripes...

Do you like your wings floured or naked before frying? Have you ever baked your wings before adding the sauce? I have done that in the past, but if you use good oil and it is hot enough, the wings are anything but greasy.

Yes, there are differences living here in Mississippi as opposed to New York, New Jersey or Massachusetts (the three other states I have resided). As I sit here today, with the temperatures in the 70's and the door to the deck open allowing the beautiful breeze to air out the home, I am serenaded by the sound of gunfire as someone, not too far away, sights in their weapons or blows up some cans or destroy photos of their spouse to relieve themselves of their anger...

hummm...that last volley sounded like it was a semi-automatic weapon...nah, this isn't sightings...the shots are very consistent. Just another beautiful Sunday...

What happened in your life on Sunday?

This week:
of The
Ten Foot Polecats

Keith Sykes does it all...singer, guitarist, songwriter, producer, record company executive.  Keith makes music and makes it extremely well.

You may not know it, but you have probably heard some of Keith's compositions from other artists; like Jimmy Buffett (co-wrote "Volcano"), Rosanna Cash (“Take Me, Take Me”, “Only Human” and “Raining In My Soul” ) and others.

Keith has just finished a new album, Country Morning Music, which he recorded on his COUCH, and we will get to discuss it with him and what plans he has for 2011 and beyond.

Then, Jim Chilson from 10 Ft Polecats will sit on The Couch and talk about this Boston based band who are making a name for themselves across the country.

The band is comprised of Jay Scheffler (vocals/harp); Jim Chilson (guitar) and Chad Rousseau (drums). The band plays North Mississippi Hill Country Blues in an aggressive style and their album "I Get Blamed For Everything I Do" was released on Hillgrass Bluebilly Records out of Austin, Texas last March.

What has the new record deal and album done for their credibility? What are their plans moving forward? All things we will talk about with Jim.

We will take your calls and questions for both guests at 1.347.633.9400.

The live interactive chat room opens 20 minutes before show time. Follow this link HERE and click on the Chat Now icon. Come hang with the fans and musicians who visit each week.

Remember, unless you take the two minutes to register, you will not be able to participate in the chat room or send me questions to ask our guests, but you will still hear the show.

So tune in on Monday evening or remember, you can always listen anytime after the show ends from the player HERE or check out Music On The Couch for additional artist information, and show recaps.

  1. Travis Cody Says:
  2. We didn't hear any gunshots over the weekend, but there was death and destruction in our house...we hope. We had the Terminex guy out to take care of the NCELM issue.

Other than that, it was a typical weekend full of errands and basketball. It's almost championship week.

  3. Coco Says:
  4. Plenty gunshots here yesterday. B-man's 8th birthday party took place at the local GameZilla and 20 little boys went on a shooting rampage. Of course, they were killing cyborgs, or whatever those things are in Wii Star Wars.

The things we do for our kids ...

  5. Jay Says:
  6. That gunfire is just people shooting their TVs when their favorite NASCAR driver wrecked.

  7. The Burl Says:
  8. I've been on a wings kick since the football playoffs and I've been baking them in lieu of using the deep fryer. As much as I'd like to say it's because I'm rolling out a healthier diet, I really just didn't want to deal the the fryer cleanup afterward.

Any way you look at it, wings are just wonderful in their spicy sweetness!

  9. Ken Says:
  10. Sunday shooting sounds like a great way to spend quality time blowing thing away!

Can't help it, I was brought up with guns and dogs and fishing rods.

  11. TRAVIS: could have had gun fire!

COCO: Different gunfire., I like yours better

    JAY: Could very well be

BURL: I know the fryer is a pain...but i reuse the oil, so no huge cleanup this weekend!

MICKEY-T: Dude..I get it and all...just different for this Yankee!

  12. TopChamp Says:
  13. That would freak me out. Don't think I have ever heard a gunshot in my life... (even that day in New Orleans when a spat got out of hand and a man shot 5 people around our hotel I didn't hear it as we were in a bar on the other side of town).

  14. I don't like breading on my wings, and while I've never cooked them myself, yours sound absolutely delicious.

  15. DrillerAA09 Says:
  16. Yep, the property just south of me hosts a variety of hunters in the fall. You can hear the gun fire as the sight in their rifles prior to deer season.
I think there is a pistol range there as well. I hear that occasionally too.
Just another day in rural Arkansas.

  17. The only gunshots at my place were on the small screen while my husband and I watched our way through the final two-part episode of season 2 of Supernatural - the special Colt that actually kills demons. We got the first four seasons box sets for Christmas and are happily watching an episode every evening. Yay, us!

  18. Unknown Says:
  19. In fact, I did have gunshot events here this weekend, to the tune of two cops coming to my ranch...long story...but it all turned out alright. So far. Life in the country...

  20. LAC Says:
  21. We hear gunshots quite often, both neighbors on either side of us are avid hunters, and cousins... so they practice together quite often. They are so thoughtful and considerate, when the baby was first born they came over and checked to make sure she was awake and that the shots wouldn't startle or wake her. How's that for great neighbors!
